The Value of the Spirit

Up until about a year and a half ago, the Holy Spirit was just a nice, far-off, thought. I understood that the God that we serve is a trinity and can be described as three parts, God the Father, God the son: Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. But besides knowing that, I only had learned about God the Father and his son, Jesus. To me, Jesus was the one who saved my life. This is very true. However... It was the Spirit of God that worked through, and breathed the life back into Jesus' broken, lifeless, human body.

When Jesus left his disciples he told them, “The Father will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17) It was the Spirit working in the disciples that allowed them to go out and perform miracles, and tell the World of God's love. Jesus leaving them seemed like the greatest loss of their lives, until the Holy Spirit came.

The Holy Spirit is different than Jesus and the Father. He is different because unlike God the Father, who watches us from above, the Spirit is here with us, among us, and in us. And unlike Jesus, the Spirit is not human, and is not bound by the limitations of human flesh. The Spirit can work in and through absolutely anything.

Paul, in his letter to the Romans, also talks about the Spirit. He describes, in the 8th Chapter of Romans, about how “Life in the Spirit” is the absolute best way of living. He describes the Holy Spirit as an “interceder” for us. We cannot see the Father, and are so far removed from his power, that our feeble minds and understandings cannot express accurately what we desire to him, so through our ineffectual attempt, the Spirit works through us and intercedes for us delivering our messages to the Father.
(Romans 8:26-27... In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.)

I am only beginning to scratch the surface in understanding the amazing gift that the Spirit is in our lives, but everyday I feel him working in me more and more.
